About the Exhibition
This exhibition by Kavita Issar Batra showcases a series of new paintings. It also includes an oversized canvas, “Ode to the Singapore Sidewalk” 2016.
Kavita’s artworks explore the idea of memory, of remembering and being remembered. Dead leaves, twigs, seedpods or flowers leave ‘marks’ on the surfaces they fall on. Usually after the rain the sun dries up the surfaces. The moisture trapped beneath these leaves causes them to leach colour and imprint themselves into the surface long after the actual leaf may have blown away or disintegrated. For Kavita, these imprints speak deeply of our human desire to remain even after our physical death, in people’s memories or through legacies we may leave to future generations.
