Until Thought Turns Into Light at ART SG 2026
Mona Choo & Calvin Pang
Until Thought Turns Into Light brings together two Singaporean artists whose practices, while articulated through distinct visual vocabularies, share a fundamental commitment to meaning-making through attentive observation.
Through their respective investigations, Mona Choo and Calvin Pang invite viewers to contemplate the structures and rhythms – both abstract and tangible – that shape our sense of self and our connection to the world.
Responding to a contemporary urgency to slow down, each artist approaches this act of deep observation from a different direction. Choo turns inward, exploring theoretical geometries that propose a relationship between consciousness and matter. Pang turns outward, engaging the natural world – particularly the sea – as a site of communion and grounding during periods of transition. Though their trajectories differ, their practices converge in a shared commitment to spiritual inquiry through artistic process.
Together, Choo and Pang create a resonant dialogue around the seen and unseen structures that sustain human experience. Choo’s meticulous compositions map abstract architectures of thought through geometric precision, while Pang’s evolving practice traces a journey from surrendering to material chance toward attunement with natural rhythms. Despite their contrasting approaches, both artists engage in a form of spiritual cartography – charting experiences that exist at the threshold between the material and immaterial.
