Wayan Suja

​Wayan Suja was born in Bali in 1975. He graduated from the Indonesian Art Institute of Denpasar in 2001. From 2002 to 2006 Wayan Suja was a member of the avant-garde collective Klinik Seni Taxu. Suja’s work is deeply rooted in his Balinese identity and he effectively contributed to the development of a new aesthetic in the Balinese contemporary art scene. In many of his artworks, Suja utilizes plastic as a symbol of the modern consumerism and globalization, which affect the Island of the Gods and endanger its unique culture. He was Finalist of 7th Phillip Morris Art Award in 2000 and shortlisted in the 2005 Sovereign Art Prize, Hongkong.
