HOME #2

by Nge Lay

Home #2  is  a large circular installation made of transparent chiffon, suspended like a delicate  shelter. it is inspired by the mosquito net, a common household object in Myanmar and Southeast Asia- both a practical tool and a symbol of safety , intimacy and belonging.

During the 2021 military coup in Myanmar, Nge Lay and her family were forced into exile. The mosquito net became a powerful metaphor for protection and fragility. In this work she has embroided and sewn texts frrom herself end other exiled friends into the fabric, transforming ht emosquito net into a vessel of collective memory and resilience.

The transparency of the fabric evokes both vulnerability and connection – a home that is no longer physical but emotional and spiritual . The installation invites the viewer to step into this fragile space and reflect on what home means in times of upheaval.
