About the Artist
Nann Nann was born in 1974 in Yangon, Myanmar where she still lives and works.
Nann Nann holds a diploma in Fine art from the State School of Fine Art, Yangon, Myanmar and a Bachelor in Sculpture from the University of Culture, Yangon.
Daughter of two traditional artists and art teachers, Nann Nann broke out of her parent’s conservative styles and went on to innovative use of traditional components and daring abstract designs both in marble sculptures and large canvases in acrylic. She is one of the few woman sculptors of Myanmar and certainly one of the strongest artists. She skillfully uses a contemporary style to celebrate the traditions of her country in her artworks. She is famous for repurposing discarded objects to create sculptures and installations and for her use of gold leaf in her paintings. She has extensively exhibited in Myanmar and abroad. Her works are in numerous private collections worldwide.
